Mumbai:
A major fire raged through a slum in Bandra area of Mumbai Friday
night where the child actors of Oscar-winning film "Slumdog
Millionaire" used to stay.
Apart from two people taken to hospital with breathing problems
due to the smoke, no other casualties were reported in the fire in
Gareeb Nagar slum, adjacent to the Bandra railway station, police
said.
The blaze broke out at around 8.30 p.m. and quickly spread through
the dense hutments. A total of 15 fire tenders were struggling to
extinguish the blaze as of 10.45 p.m.
As the fire was near the railway station, the Central Railway has
partially curtailed operations on its Harbour Line.
Azharuddin and Rubina, who played the roles of the protagonists in
their childhood, used to live in this very slum until they moved
out after homes were arranged for them by the "Slumdog.." crew.
Several other children, who played bit roles in the movie, still
stay in the slum.
