A total of 31 Muslims are among the 920 candidates who have
cleared the UPSC exams held in November 2010. Based on their ranks
they would now be recommended for various civil services posts.
Among the 31 Muslims, Tariq Thomas
has secured the rank of 35, Mannan Akhtar has secured the rank of 55
whereas Mir Mohammed Ali has secured the rank of 59. Rest all are of
the ranks above 100.
Based on the result declared by the
Union Public Service Commission May 11, the number of successful
Muslim candidates is 31 - a meager 3.36% of the total successful
candidates.
Last year, among 875 selected candidates 21
were Muslims and in 2009, out of 791 selected candidates, 31 were
Muslims. Dr. Shah Faesal of Kashmir had topped last year's UPSC
exams.
This year,
Divyadharshini, who is an assistant in State Bank of India in
Chennai and has passed in her second attempt with Public
Administration and Law as optional papers, has topped the Civil
Service examinations.
"I want to do good to the civil society and
fight corruption," says S Divyadharshini, a law graduate said
after the results.
"I am very happy. I owe my success to my parents and Prabhakaran
of Prabhakaran IAS Academy. My parents gave me a lot of freedom
and moral support," a delighted Divyadharshini told PTI at her
residence in Sterling Road.
Asked whether the new Civil Services Aptitude Test syllabus will
affect students from rural areas, she said it will be a level
ground to all.
After having completed her law degree from Dr Ambedkar Law
University in 2009, she took to UPSC preparations.
Divyadharshini is the second of three siblings.
