Thiruvananthapuram: V Irfan and N Shammi have won the
first two ranks in the Kerala state Medical Entrance Exams of
2011. Education Minister P Abdurabb announced the results
yesterday in a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram. The third
rank was bagged by P Ashitha.
Irfan, son of late Prof V Muhammed Kutty and NK Khadeeja, bagged
the first rank scoring 944.78. Hailing from Mattathur in
Malappuram district, Irfan is sad only that his father who
encouraged him much in his studies is not with him to see his
achievement. His father who was lecturer of Chemistry in PSMO
College, Tirurangadi, died three years ago in a road accident when
Irfan was in 10th standard. Though his father may not be with him,
Irfan wrote the medical entrance as per the wishes of his mother
and has bagged the rank. He wishes to conduct researches in the
medical field and to be active in medical service. He had
attempted the entrance exam soon after completing his Plus Two
last year, but did not get expected scores. And now he has got the
first rank in his second attempt. He has three brothers and one
sister.
The second-rank holder N Shammi is the son of Nasarudheen and
Rajeena. He hails from Kollam district. Shammi had written both
the engineering and medical entrance exams last year but failed to
get good ranks. So this year he devoted his time only for the
medical and has bagged the second rank. Interested in pediatrics,
Shammi wishes to join the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College for
his studies.
Third-rank holder Ashitha hails from Ernakulam, and is daughter of
PT Pathrose and Lisi. P Krishnamohan of Kozhikode won the first
rank among the Scheduled Castes and Geethu Divakar of Wayanad won
the first rank among the Scheduled Tribes. In the general list, MA
Ahmed Kabeer, VB Siyas and Shahma Silvana topped the rank lists in
Thrissur, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts, respectively.
The score list of engineering entrance exams have also been
published, which is available on the website of the entrance exam
commissioner. However, the rank list will be announced in June
only after adding the marks of the qualifying exam.

them being girls. Out of the 1,01,905 students who wrote the
