Parliamentarians, activists join hands to probe arrests of Muslim youth

Saturday July 14, 2012 06:54:48 PM, ummid.com Staff Reporter

Malegaon: Even as peaceful protests in different parts of the country have failed to convince the government to stop the police and investigating agencies from arresting Muslim youth without sufficient evidence, a New Delhi based organization on Friday announced the formation of a fact finding team to look into the illegal targeting of Muslims and their implication in terror cases.

The decision to form the fact finding team was taken in the meeting of the core committee of 'Targeting the Muslim Youth'. The meeting held in New Delhi on Friday was presided over by Member of Parliament Mohammad Adeeb, Mumbai based Urdu daily, Inquilab, reported today.

The fact finding team will comprise of MPs Mohammad Adeeb, D Raja, Badruddin Ajmal Qasmi and other parliamentarians besides  senior journalist Seema Mustafa, Prof Anuradha Chenoy, journalist Ajeet Singh, Iqbal Ahmed and Ameeque Jamee.

Senior journalist Kuldeep Nayer has also given his consent to be part of the fact finding team, the report said.

The organization, Targeting the Muslim Youth, is also trying to pursue Justice Rajendra Sachar to head the fact finding team.

The decision to form the fact finding team follows the public meeting organised by Targeting the Muslim Youth on July 09 in New Delhi.

Besides the members of the fact finding team, the meeting was attended by Samajwadi Party MP Mohan Singh, Lokjan Shakti party president Ramvilas Paswan, CPI leaders D Raja and A.B. Bardhan and Ram Gopal Yadav.

The fact finding team will meet the family members of the Muslim youth recently arrested in the terror related cases and prepare its own report. Based on the report of the fact finding team, the parliamentarians would raise the issue in the parliament, the report quoted MP Mohd Adeeb as saying.
