Mumbai: The
homes and office of former city Congress chief Kripashankar Singh
and his family were raided by Mumbai police's Economic Offences
Wing and Special Investigation Team (SIT) in connection with
corruption related cases, an official said Friday.
The raids, which started late Thursday, continued at the homes of
Singh and his family members in Vile Parle and Bandra, as well as
an office in Bandra.
The raids came barely 48 hours after Mumbai police registered a
case against Singh and his family under the Prevention of
Corruption Act and other charges, following a Bombay High Court
order last week in a public interest litigation case, filed by
social activist Sanjay Tiwari.
Details of the outcome of the raids were not immediately
available.
Singh is reported to be away in New Delhi in connection with a
case he is planning to file before the Supreme Court, challenging
a Bombay High Court order.
Following the court directions, the SIT lodged a first information
report at Nirmal Nagar Police Station, Khar, here Feb 29.
The SIT was directed to probe the assets accumulated by Singh and
his family as per the allegations in Tiwari's PIL and the state
Anti-Corruption Bureau's report of March 30 (2011).
Incidentally, soon after the high court order last week, Singh had
resigned from the coveted post of Mumbai Congress chief.
