Aligarh: The students of the Aligarh Muslim University have taken up a historical initiative to get their alma mater registered with the Guinness Book of World Record by producing largest envelop of the world.

 

The 37×27 feet envelop made by a group of about two dozen students belonging to the faculties of Engineering, Architecture, Fine Arts and Law was put on display at the Kennedy Auditorium of the University before a large  gathering of students and teachers.
 

Addressing the ceremony, the chief guest, Additional District Magistrate of Aligarh, D. S. Sachan said that it was a lifetime opportunity for him to become a part of the historic event and be a witness to the efforts of the University students.

 

He said that the University is considered one of the most prestigious institutions of the world and a centre of excellence. He said that Sir Syed Ahmad Khan had established the University with great devotion and commitment and it is great to see that the students of this University are realizing his dreams.


Sachan observed that although he was a student of Engineering, he has developed great interest in history after visiting the AMU. He said that education was the only way through which one could achieve the heights of success. He urged the students to keep intact the soul of this institution and take education with complete devotion and commitment.

 

He appreciated that the students of the University had become the President and Vice President of the country and the current lot of students also had the talent and abilities to reach the top positions in various walks of life.
 

Eminent surgeon and former President of AMU Students’ Union (AMUSU), Dr. Mohsin Raza said, “This University is like our mother and if its prestige is dented by any of us then not only our mother but we will also be deformed”.

 

He urged the students to desist from all such acts that could tarnish the prestige and reputation of the University.
 

The students’ team leader, Syed Nabeel Mehdi said that although AMU was known all over the world for academic reasons but it had yet to be included in the Guinness Bokok of world records.

 

He said that registration of AMU in Guinness Book was his dream and the idea of producing the largest envelope of the world was conceived out of the desire to materialize this dream. He expressed thanks to all for their cooperation and encouragement.
 

Mehdi said that about ten thousand messages had been received from the AMU fraternity that were dedicated to the world peace and international brotherhood.
 

The President of AMU Students’ Union, Syed Shariq Ahmad appreciated the spirit of the team and thanked its members for providing a chance to be a witness to the historic moment.

 

The Secretary, Hammad Nabi while thanking the dignitaries and students said that some selfish elements were tarnishing the image of the University while common students were trying to save its prestige. Appreciating the efforts of the students, he urged all to respect the endeavour made by the students.


Former President of AMUSU, Abu Affan Farooqui said that Aligarh has a great attraction and whoever comes to Aligarh becomes a captive of its mesmerizing power and lives for all his life like a moonstruck. He said it is our joint responsibility to work for the betterment and progress of the University.
 

Former Secretary of the Student’s Union, Mohammad Farrukh said that he was fortunate to be a witness to the historic was also a witness to the historic moment and hoped the initiative proved successful in enhancing the prestige of the University and establishing it as an international brand.

 

On the occasion, chief guest ADM (City), Aligarh D. S. Sachan, Prof. Razaullah Khan, Prof. Mukhtar Ahmad, Dr. F. S. Shirani and former office bearers of AMUSU were felicitated by the students.
