People search for burial space in Rawalpindi

Islamabad: People in Pakistan's Rawalpindi city are finding it
difficult to bury their dead as they say there is not enough space
left for their loved ones any more.
The only graveyard planned and completed in 1997 near a village
called Dhamial, some 25 km from the city, is yet to turn first
choice for the people due to its inaccessibility, Online news
agency reported.
Residents in urban areas, on the other hand, are facing a shortage
of space, as almost all the burial grounds are either filled to
capacity or reserved in advance.
The few available spaces, however, need to be paid for.
There are four major graveyards in the city - Rata, Pirwadhai,
Eidgah and Dhoke Munshi. But all of them are overcrowded. They are
short of necessary facilities such as a place for funeral prayers
and making ablution.
Residents have demanded the city administration allocate funds for
the construction of a new graveyard in Rawalpindi.
