Mumbai:
Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officers are threatening to
demolish some of the Anjuman-e-Islam schools in the city, a high level
delegation led by Anjuman-e-Islam chief Dr Zaheer Qazi complained
to the Maharashtra Chief Minister, Prithviraj Chavan on Wednesday.
"Since last one year, Mumbai civic
officers are threatening to demolish some schools run by the
Anjuman-e-Islam taking advantage of some petty issues", the
delegation said to Chavan during a meeting with him at Mantralaya.
The delegation, which comprised
Muslim and non-Muslim legislators belonging to various parties
including the ruling Congress party, also informed the chief
minister about the hurdles the civic officers are creating at some
Anjuman schools.
"It seems the civic officials have
joined hands with some anti-social elements to deliberately harass
the Anjuman management and school authorities", they alleged.
The delegation also gave the chief
minister the details of the FSI permission papers submitted to the
concerned departments which are lying without any action.
"The expansion work at Saboo
Siddique Polytechnic and Anjuman Complex at Panvel are waiting
permissions from the concerned departments. But, it seems, the
communally biased officers are deliberately delaying decisions on
these files", the delegation informed the chief minister.
Amin Patel, Congress legislator and
Chairman of Maulana Azad Corporation said that he was witness to
the entire things as most of the Anjuman-e-Islam schools fall under his
constituency.
"If an institution like Anjuman-e-Islam
which is more than hundred years old and considered as one of the
biggest in the country can be treated like this, one can just
imagine the plight of smaller institutions", Patel said to the
chief minister requesting him to intervene in the matter.
Besides Dr Zahir Qazi and Amin
Patel, the delegation also included legislators Abu Asim Azmi,
Baba Siddiqui, Madhu Chavan, Annie Shekhar, Nawab Malik and Rasheed Tahir Momin. Community
leaders who were part of the delegation are Mustaqueem Azmi,
Mehmood Daryabadi, Waqarunnisa, Ejaz Kahmiri, Pasha Patel and
others.
The Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)
is ruled by right-wing Hindu parties Shiv Sena and BJP. The two
parties are known for their anti-minorities and anti-Muslim
agenda.
