Aligarh:
Assuming charge as Vice
Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University on Thursday, Lt.
General (Retired) Zameeruddin Shah reiterated his priority to
maintain discipline in the university campus. Sixty-three years
old General Shah was appointed to the post on May 10.
"I would focus on restoring peace
and maintaining discipline so that academic activity can continue
unhindered", General Shah said while addressing the students and
media on his first day in the office.
He further
said that AMU is a national fame institution and he will try his best to regain its glory.
AMU Vice Chancellor General Shah announced that he would be
launching some important
steps for protecting the academic interest of the University staff
and students and
improving the professional prospects of the students.
After assuming the charge, General Shah paid floral tributes at the
tomb of Sir Syed Ahmad
Khan, the founder of the University.
He also visited several
historical buildings at Sir
Syed Hall of residence.
General Shah was the deputy Chief of Army
Staff from October 1,
2006 to August 30, 2008. He is a recipient of the highest
peacetime military award Param
Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) and Sena
Medal (SM) for
distinguished services to the nation.
General Shah’s family has a long association with the Aligarh
Muslim University. His
father, Aale Rasool Shah had studied in City High School, an
AMU’s maintained
institution. His younger brother, noted film actor, Nasiruddin
Shah is also a
product of AMU.
AMU Registrar, Prof. V. K. Abdul Jaleel, Controller of Exams,
Prof. Pervez Mustajab,
Finance Officer, Mrs. Yasmin Jalal Beg, Proctor, Prof. Mujahid Beg and the PRO, Dr.
Rahat Abrar welcomed the new Vice Chancellor at his office.
