Mufti Sayeed call for government change in J&K

Saturday May 26, 2012 09:30:12 PM, IANS

Jammu: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron and former chief minister Mufti Mohamamd Sayeed Saturday sought public support for changing "the present inept and corrupt system" to improve the life of the common man.

Targeting the National Conference-led coalition government, Mufti Sayeed said that, in contrast to the present government, the PDP, during its short tenure, had shown how change could be brought about in the life of people even with a fractured mandate.

The PDP was in power in Jammu and Kashmir from 2002 to 2005.

Addressing a public meeting at Maan Talai, a tourist resort about 140 km from Jammu, Mufti Sayeed reminded the gathering that the PDP-led regime had changed the fundamentals of politics and of the administrative system through its conviction and commitment.

He especially mentioned various developmental projects which were initiated during the PDP-led regime. "This region remained neglected for decades together and it was only during the tenure of the PDP-led regime that various developmental projects were initiated," he said.

Mufti Sayeed also cited some instances of projects initiated during his administration for the development of tourism in the area.
