New Delhi: Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh Saturday slammed Gujarat Chief Minister for saying he was a "Hindu nationalist" and said asked him to be a "nationalist Indian".
"Shouldn't we all be nationalist Indians rather than Hindu nationalists or Muslim nationalists or Sikh nationalists or Christian nationalists," Digvijaya Singh asked in his tweet Saturday.
Attacking the BJP's Election Campaign Committee chief for showcasing himself as a Hindu nationalist, Singh tweeted: "Don't divide this great nation on basis of religion which (Veer) Savarkar and Jinnah did. They were the original authors of the two-nation theory."
In an interview to a newswire agency, Modi had said: "I am nationalist. I'm patriotic. Nothing is wrong. I am a born Hindu. Nothing is wrong. So I'm a Hindu nationalist. So yes, you can say I'm a Hindu nationalist because I'm a born Hindu."
