No alternative to Telangana state acceptable, says TRS
Saturday June 15, 2013 6:36 PM, IANS

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Saturday made it clear that nothing short of a separate state of Telangana is acceptable to it.

TRS legislator K. Tarakarama Rao said people of the region would not accept an alternative to separate state. He was reacting to reports that the Congress central leadership is considering a package for Telangana.

"Let them give a package to Seemandhra (Rayalaseema and Andhra regions) and separate state to people of Telangana," said Tarakarama Rao, son of TRS chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao.

He alleged that some members of Congress core committee, who were sold out to capitalists from Seemandhra, were proposing the package.

Meanwhile, leaders of ruling Congress party from Telangana region held a meeting to chalk out their future course of action on the issue.

The state ministers, MPs and other leaders held a meeting a day after protests rocked Hyderabad during 'chalo assembly' called by Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC). The arrests of hundreds of Telangana activists have mounted pressure on the Congress leaders.

After the meeting, Panchayat Raj Minister K. Jana Reddy said they were ready for any sacrifice to achieve separate Telangana state. The meeting decided to once again convey their views to the central government and demand immediate solution to the problem.

Jana Reddy said they were acting with restraint and cooperating with the central government. The Congress leaders will meet again on June 18 to discuss future course of action.

Voicing concern over the suicide of a student for Telangana state, the minister appealed to youth not to end their lives.

Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP P. Goverdhan Reddy lashed out at Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy for using police force to suppress Telangana march. He disputed the chief minister's claim that the central government praised his handling of the situation.

Goverdhan Reddy said the chief minister with his action was damaging Congress party in Telangana.

Another Congress leader and former state minister K. Venkat Reddy said the government under the leadership of Seemandhra was trying to suppress the Telangana movement. He criticized the chief minister for creating a war-like situation in Hyderabad.

Former union minister and Congress MP from Rayalaseema Sai Pratap said he was confident that the central government will not bifurcate Andhra Pradesh. He said Telugu-speaking people of the state should remain united.
