Implement Akhtar-ul-Wasey Committee Report for development of Urdu: MBMC

A local group working for the educational upliftment of the Muslims Tuesday welcomed the report of Prof. Akhtar-ul-Wasey Committee and demanded from the government of India to implement its recommendations made for development of the Urdu language.

"The report of the Prof. Akhtar ul Wasey Committee appointed by ministry of HRD to make recommendations for the development of Urdu language is meaningful and a valuable document. If the government implements these recommendations then not only Urdu language will develop but our composite culture will also be strengthened", Prof. Razaullah Khan said while presiding over an Analysis meeting on contribution and development of Urdu by the Millat Bedari Muhim Commttee (MBMC), Aligarh.

He pointed out that Prof. Akhtar-ul-Wasey Committee has recommended that quota for Urdu medium students should be earmarked in government colleges.

"It is very meaningful as most of the Urdu medium students come from Madarsa background and they will join mainstream education system", he said.

He said that the committee has also recommended to collect and preserve Urdu documents related to our freedom struggle and Indian government should pay attention to preserve this national treasurer.

Jasim Mohammad, Secretary of MBMC said that the committee has recommended to grant the status of an open University to Jamia Urdu Aligarh after taking into account its performance.

"The government should and declare the Jamia Urdu Aligarh an Open University through parliamentary legislation extend equalancy to the certificates and degree of Jamia Urdu Aligarh without further delay", he said.

Jasim Mohammad said that the committee has also recommended to begin Urdu Journalism courses. If the government implements it then not only the students of Urdu medium will get respected jobs but the media will also be enriched.

He said that the government must show its political will to implement the recommendation made by Committee instead of just fooling people.

AMU EC member Dr. Mohammad Shahid said that distance education system has importance and as per the recommendations of committee the government should direct universities to provide education in Urdu medium through distance education which will benefit large section of India masses.

"Likewise", he added, "The recommendation of three language formula should also be implemented truly which was base of whole education system."

AMU Court Member Prof. Humayun Murad said Urdu language cannot be developed till the government makes provision for primary education in Urdu medium and the committee has also recommended that. Hence government should make provisions for that.

Jamia Urdu Aligarh OSD Farhat Ali Khan said that the committee has recommended to provide education in Urdu medium to students of 13-19 years age according to the need of market. If implemented this will have far reaching affect on socio-economic status of Urdu speaking people.

AMU Students Union former President Dr. Naseem Ashraf said that NCPUL is serving the nation well but it lacks a comfortable budget.

"The government should increase its budget to 1000 crore rupees as the committee has recommended", he said.
