Hyderabad: Zafar Sareshwala, an industrialist by profession who is known for his closeness with prime minister Narendra Modi, has been appointed as the new Chancellor of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) Hyderabad.
According to a communication received from Ministry of Human Resource Development at the Vice Chancellor's Office, President of India in his Capacity as Visitor of the University has appointed Sareshwala for a term of three years.
Zafar Sareshwala is fourth Chancellor of MANUU. He succeeds Dr. Syeda Saiyidain Hameed, Former Member of Planning Commission.
Zafar Sareshwala is a businessman and said to be a key Modi advisor on Muslim issues. He is the person who is with Modi since last few years, and played key roles in arranging secret and open meetings of few Muslim leaders including ex-Deoband rector Ghulam Mohd Vastanvi and Mehmood Madanai – secretary of a faction of Jamiatul Ulelma Hind, with Narendra Modi in the runner-up to the 2014 Lok Sabha election.
Considered one of Modi's trusted backroomboys, Zafar Sareshwala was also the man who arranged the meeting of Salman Khan with Modi, and later organised the launch of Modi's election campaign website in the Urdu language by the hands of Salim Khan, Salman Khan's father.
