Amid clamor for AIPMT re-exam, CBSE says no question paper leak

New Delhi: Amid growing demands of re-exam, first by Haryana police and then by a huge majority of students, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Thursday clarified that there was no leak of the question paper in the All India Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Entrance Test (AIPMT) exam held on May 3.

"It is informed in the interest of all the candidates who appeared in this examination that there has been no leakage of the question paper," the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) said in a statement.

"No reports were received prior to or after the examination from any quarter. The first news report of this nature appeared only on May 5, after a lapse of two days," it added.

"It appears that the issue pertains to the use of unfair means and attempt to cheat by certain unscrupulous elements after the commencement of the paper. The police department of the area is initiating suitable action as per law," the CBSE said.

It said it had put in place elaborate arrangements including the deployment of city coordinators, observers, centre superintendents, invigilators, and police personnel at each centre.

After it arrested a gang of people allegedly involved in the conspiracy to leak the AIPMT question paper, the Haryana police had suggested to the CBSE to cancel the exam held on May 3 and conduct a re-exam.

"It appears that the exam system has failed, and it may deprive genuine students of the country from getting admission in medical institutions. It should be suspended in the interest of justice," said Shrikant Jadhav, inspector general of police, Rohtak range.

The investigators believe that the gang had linkages with different states including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Following the Haryana police suggestion, a large number of students demanded from the CBSE to re-conduct the test.

"What is the harm in thr re-test of AIPMT 2015? In current generation of technology, do you really think that answer key had only reached 90 students or 900. Answer Key must have traveled within seconds through Facebook, Whatsapp and social media.

"Do you really think that all who cheated were got caught. The thing which really matters is not who was caught or was not, but the thing which matters is how and why it got leaked? And we have reached to the conclusion that, once it is leaked, the exam remains authentic no longer. So as per the request from students AIPMT 2015 re-test must be conducted", a student said.

"There is very strict need of AIPMT 2015 Re-Test. Because many students were doing hard work in studies and if the exam is not conducted again, this will be injustice with them. CBSE should consider this issue seriously and should release AIPMT 2015 re-test official notification as soon as possible so that students can prepare for the exam", another student said.

"It’s a shame for the managing department of AIPMT 2015 as its question paper and answer key leaked by someone before the exam. There is no official news from CBSE about AIPMT 2015 re-test. The CBSE should announce its decision as soon as possible as students are eager to hear AIPMT re-test news from the CBSE", a student said.
