Mumbai:
Hyundai India has now been offering dealer-fitted CNG kits for its sporty hatchback the grand i10 and the Hyundai Xcent sedan.

The LPG variant of the Grand i10 was launched last year and it was discontinued owing to poor reception. However, the CNG versions of both the Grand i10 and Xcent were launched last year, during the festive season.

Now, the dealer-fitted CNG versions of the Grand i10 and Xcent are priced at Rs. 5.07 lakh and Rs. 5.45 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai) for the base variants. The on-road prices of both these vehicles are at Rs. 6.51 lakh and Rs. 6.94 lakh respectively. Bookings are being taken with an upfront payment of Rs. 20,000, as deliveries may be expected within a couple of weeks or so.

Retro-fitting of CNG had been banned in Delhi recently, due to the rise of unapproved, uncertified and low quality kits. However, the dealer-level CNG kits and are completely legal and will be reflected on your RC book upon delivery.

The CNG variants of both the Hyundai Grandi10 and the Hyundai Xcent will be tuned to develop different states of power than the petrol variant, which makes 80 PS and 112 Nm of torque. So, the fuel efficiency will also be different from the petrol variant, which claims 18.9 km/l.

Both the Grand i10 and the Xcent have been facing challenges in recent times, after they met with success close to their respective launches in 2013 and 2014.

It remains to be seen if the Hyundai's strategies to equip the hatchback and sedan with CNG kits will revive the prospects of the vehicles to put them back on top of the charts.
