Villager dies in clash with police in Nashik district

Mumbai: A local resident of Khed Bhairav village in Nashik district died today in a clash with a team of police who were raiding illicit liquor dens in the village.

According to police, the incident took place this evening when a team of Ghoti Police Station raided illicit liquor dens in Khed Bhairav village in Igatpuri tehsil. During the action, a clash broke out between the policemen and locals.

"During a scuffle with police constables S C Charuskar and Sandeep Zalte, Balu Khodke fell down and suffered grievous head injuries. He was admitted to a nearby hospital, where he scummed to injuries," a police official said.

Some angry villagers attacked the police staff after the death of the villager, who was a member of the village panchayat, police said.

"Tension prevailed in the village following the incident and additional force has been deployed," the official said.

"The villagers as well as the policemen are in the process of filing cross complaints in this regard," he added.
