New Delhi: Cow vigilantes, the self proclaimed Gau Rakshaks, on Thursday brutally thrashed two Hindu men in Jewar area of Greater Noida who were mistaken as Muslims becuase they were carrying a cow and calf.
The victims identified as Jabar Singh (35) and Bhoop Singh (45), who are vegetable vendors in Sirsa Manjhipur area of Greater Noida, were returning with a cow and calf after buying them from Mehndipur village when the cow vigilantes mistook them as Muslims and attacked them.
The two victims cried out that they were Hindus and that they were transporting the cow for dairy business, upon which the vigilantes relented. The accused fled from the spot leaving the victim in a critical condition.
An FIR has been lodged against the accused but no arrests have been made so far.
Incidents of violent attacks by cow vigilantes are regularly taking place in different parts of India ever since the BJP formed governments in New Delhi and some other states after winning recently held elections.
Shehzad Poonawal, an actvist, filed a petition in the Supreme Court after the government failed to contain and take suitable action against cow vigilantes.
