Washington: In an emotional gesture after performing Hajj with over 2.3 million Muslims from around the world, Ibtihaj Muhammad - the Hijab wearing American Olympian, said that she did not have words to express her feelings.

"Words can’t express the happiness I have in my heart right now having the opportunity to spend this holiday in Makkah. May the efforts of the hujjaj be accepted and I hope Allah invites you to Hajj soon!", Ibtihaj Muhammad wrote on Twitter using her verified account @IbtihajMuhammad.

Ibtihaj Muhammad is an American sabre fencer, and a member of the United States fencing team. She is best known for being the first Muslim American woman to wear a Hijab while competing for the United States in the Olympics.

In individual sabre at the 2016 Summer Olympics, she won her first qualifying round bout. She was defeated in the second round by Cécilia Berder of France. She earned the bronze medal as part of Team USA in the Team Sabre, becoming the first female Muslim-American athlete to earn a medal at the Olympics.

Ibtihaj Muhammad's parents were born in the United States, and converted to Islam. Her father, Eugene Muhammad, is a retired Newark, New Jersey police officer, and her mother, Denise, was an elementary school special education teacher.

Ibtihaj Muhammad's memoir "Proud: My Fight for an Unlikely American Dream" is celebrated as a powerful story about her rise as a black Muslim Olympian. She now plans to share with the world her experience during Hajj through her website and other platforms.

"Can’t wait to tell you all about my hajj experience over at www.ibtihajmuhammad.com soon. Thanks again to @DSTWorldTravel and @turkishairlines for organizing this amazing trip! Take a moment for sincere du’a that Allah invites you for hajj soon as well", she wrote in another message on her Twitter page.
