Bulandshahr cop killed because he was probing Akhlaq lynching in Dadri: Kin

Police has arrested 04 and detained other 05 in connection with the case. However, the main accused is yet to be nabbed

Lucknow: The sister of Inspector Subodh Kumar who was killed Monday in Bulandshahr says his death was the result of a "conspiracy" by the police because he was probing Mohammad Akhlaq lynching case in Dadri.

"Subodh Kumar Singh was killed because he was investigating the brutal lynching in 2015 of Mohammad Akhlaq, 52, in a village in Dadri", Saroj Singh Chauhan, the sister of slain cop, told news agency ANI.

Akhlaq and his son Danish were dragged out of their home, mercilessly assaulted and then left for dead over allegations of slaughtering a calf and storing its meat in their fridge. While Akhlaq died on the spot, his son sustained critical injuries. The incident had occurred on September 29, 2015. Initital probe had revealed that, along with others, a BJP leader's son was also invloved in the case.

Whil demanding that her brother should be declared a martyr, Saroj criticised Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

"What is the CM doing?" she asked. "He keeps saying 'cow, cow, cow'."

Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh, who was posted at the Syana Police Station, died in the violence that broke out in Bulandshahr on Monday over alleged illegal slaughter of cattle.

Additional Director General of Meerut zone Prashant Kumar said the protesters from Mahaw village and nearby areas pelted stones on the police and indulged in arson setting several vehicles and the Chingarwathi Police Chowki on fire.

The trouble started after villagers found some body parts of cow and its progeny in a jungle in Mahaw village, the ADG said.

Angry villagers and members of various Hindu groups brought the animal remains in tractor-trolley to the Chingarwathi Police Chowki and demanded action against the culprits. They also raised slogans against the police administration and blocked the Bulandshahr-Garh highway.

Meanwhile, police has arrested 04 and detained other 05 in connection with the case. However, the main accused is yet to be nabbed.

"We don't know about the organisations involved in the violence yet. But the main accused in the violence is Yogesh Raj who has not been arrested till now", Anand Kumar ADG (Law and Order) Uttar Pradesh said.
