The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in 43 Municipalties or Nagar Palikas whereas Congress is ahead in 28 Nagar Palikas, according to the latest information from the state poll commission.

Counting of votes is undeway for the 75 Naga Palikas in 26 districts where polls were held on Saturday.

According to the reports, BJP has won Vadnagar, Kheralu and Vijapur Nagar Palika in Mehsana district whereas Congress has bagged Zalod Nagar Palika in Zalod district.

So far, the BJP has won a total of 1125 seats in various Nagar Palikas while the Congress has bagged 587.

The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress are in a neck-and-neck battle to wrest power in 75 Nagarpalikas and Municipalties in 26 districts where elections were held on February 17, 2018.

The counting of votes started today morning amid tight security. According to the trends coming after initial rounds of voting, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in as many as 44 Nagarpalikas whereas Congress is ahead in 27.

In total, the BJP has won 806 seats in various Nagar Palikas so far while the Congress has bagged 453.

According to the election commission sources, the BJP has retained Kalavad and Jamjodhpur municipalities in Jamnagar district and Karamsad Municipality in Kheda district whereas Congress has won Radhanpur municipality in Patan district.

In Ahmedabad district, Congress wins 13 out of 28 seats of Dhandhuka Nagar Palika. BJP bags 9 seats.

Congress has also scored victoryin Rajula municipality in Amreli district. The party ousts BJP by winning 27 out of 28 seats.

The BJP retained power in Gadhda municipality in Botad district and Dwarka municipality in Devbhumi Dwarka district.

The 74 state municipal corporations that went to polls saw a voter turnout of 64.4 per cent. A total of 19.76 lakh voters cast their votes on 2,763 polling stations in the Gujarat Municipality Election 2018.

Rajkot was reported to have the lowest turnout at 50.17% while Dahod stands at 76.67%, the highest recorded in the state.

BJP currently rules 59 of the 75 municipal corporations in the state.
