New Delhi: President of Jamiat e Ulema Hind Syed Arshad Madani on Sunday alleged that cases of mob lynching are on the rise because those involved in killing people in the name of cow slaughter have political protection and backing.
“Incidents of mob lynching saw a sudden rise after the Supreme Court asked the government to frame a law against it. It only indicates that people involved in mob lynching and killing innocents don’t care the apex court’s concern as they have political protection and backing”, Syed Arshad Madani said soon after he was unanimously elected President of Jamiat e Ulema Hind for the next five years.
“Mob lynching is not a murder. Its brazen and worst kind of ferocity and savagery being committed under political protection”, he said.
He urged all political parties to ensure that a stringent law is passed against mob lynching. “It’s not an issue of any community. It’s a political issue and all secular and likeminded parties should come forward to make sure that a tough and stringent law is passed to stop this madness”, he said.
Questioning the sincerity of Modi government over the issue, Syed Arshad Madani asked why the government is not according “National Animal” status to cow.
“We have demanded it in the past and are reiterating our demand once again. Accord the National Animal status to cows if you really want to protect them”, he said.
Allaying the fears of Muslims in Assam, Syed Arshad Madani said the Jamiat is closely monitoring the development and will not allow anyone to brand Muslims who are legitimate citizens of this country as foreigners.
“You should not fear even if your names are not there in the National Register of Citizens (NRC). Keep patience and don’t react in haste. You will be given enough chance and Jamiat volunteers will be present at every district and block offices of the state to help such people”, he said.
