Amravati: The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has most likely made up its mind to quit National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and pull out support to the BJP-led Narendra Modi government in New Delhi. An announcement regarding this is likely to be made on Friday when TDP president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, has called a politburo meeting.

Sources said that a majority of the members including MPs, MLAs and senior leaders have already told Naidu to quit NDA. “This is the final option. The CM is livid that instead of resolving issues faced by the state, the BJP is indulging in dirty politics that it played in Tamil Nadu,’’ TDP leader Kambhampati Rammohan Rao said.

Chandrababu Naidu is upset with the Modi government ever since Finance Minister Arun Jaitley failed to allocate the funds demanded by the TDP and other Andhra parties. The Andhra leaders are also upset with the Modi government because of its denial of "Special Status" to Andhra Pradesh promised in AP Reorganisation Act 2014.

Speculations that TDP will quit NDA were rife in the last week itself. However, Naidu directed his ministers to resign from the Modi government, saying it will remain in the NDA. Relation between TDP and BJP deteriorated further when Naidu claimed that he wanted to talk with Prime Minister Modi before taking a final call on TDP ministers’ resignation. Modi however did not come on phone.

Earlier in the day, addressing a teleconference with TDP MPs, Naidu hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleging that the latter is using the same tactics he adopted in Tamil Nadu, now in Andhra Pradesh. Mentioning how Modi had supported the O Panneerselvam faction against Edappadi Palaniswami in the 2017 feud between the two factions of the AIADMK party following the death of its leader J Jayalalithaa, Chandrababu said that he is repeating the same by pitting YSR Congress party’s YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and Jana Sena’s Pawan Kalyan against him.

To counter this, Naidu has advised TDP MPs to support the no-confidence motion moved by YSR Congress party against the Narendra Modi government. The YSR Congress, which does not have sufficient numbers in Parliament to move a no-confidence motion, has reached out to floor leaders of all the opposition parties seeking their support against the NDA government. YSR Congress Rajya Sabha MP Vijaysai Reddy met the opposition party leaders and requested them to support the motion. Reddy sent a notice to Secretary General of Lok Sabha to include the no-confidence motion in Friday's proceedings.
