New Delhi: Unleashing a scathing attack on Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership, Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said people accepted a murder accused as the BJP president while they would not have done so if it was the Congress chief.

“They will accept a man accused of murder as the president of the BJP, but they will never ever accept the same in the Congress, because they hold Congress in the highest regard,” Rahul said, taking a veiled dig at BJP Chief Amit Shah over the Ishrat Jehan encounter and Justice Loya death case.

While addressing the concluding session of the Congress party’s 84th Plenary Session, Rahul Gandhi once again targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi over Goods & Services Tax (GST), Demonetisation and Rafael deal.

“The name Modi symbolises the collusion between India’s biggest businessmen and the Prime Minister. Modi gives Modi 30,000 crores of your money and in turn, Modi gives Modi money for marketing Modi and fighting elections”, he said in a veiled reference to Nirav Modi and Lailt Modi – the two who fled the country after facing allegations of frauds.

Alleging that Prime Minister Modi personally changed Rafale deal and bought 36 aircraft for the same price that the Congress negotiated for 126, Rahul Gandhi said, “We paid Rs 570 cr per plane and Modi Ji paid Rs 1670 cr for the same plane. He paid 1100 cr more per plane. Forget fighter planes, you can’t trust such a man to buy vegetables!!! Modi is not fighting corruption Modi is corruption.”

Training his guns on Arun Jaitley, Gandhi said the finance minister and his daughter were hand in glove with crony capitalists. The Congress chief had earlier alleged that Jaitley’s lawyer daughter was engaged by Nirav Modi for legal work. “You can steal Rs 33,000 crore from the banks and the BJP government will protect you. Finance Minister will go silent because he and his daughter work for crony capitalists,” Gandhi said.

“Instead of acknowledging the challenges facing the nation, PM Modi diverts our attention away from our problems. We are being told that our problems only exist in our imagination”, he added.

Ridiculing the Prime Minister and BJP’s oft-repeated claim that India today is the fastest growing economy in the world, the Congress president dared them to go out and ask the youth in any city what they are engaged in. The answer, he suggested, would invariably be ‘nothing’. Millions of youth are jobless and are hopelessly looking for employment but the prime minister and his finance minister boast of fastest growth in the world, he exclaimed.

“Visit any shop and look up any fancy product, you will find it is ‘Made in China’. China is everywhere —in shops, in Doklam, in Nepal, in Maldives… if you are rich, you can make more millions by selling Chinese goods while the Finance Minister and his daughter work for crony capitalists,” he asserted.

"There are two visions before the world today- American and Chinese. My aim is to present an Indian vision to the world", the Congress President said.

Meanwhile, hitting back at Congress President Rahul Gandhi for calling Amit Shah “a man accused of murder”, Defence Minister and BJP leader Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday termed allegations against her party’s chief as a “false, motivated campaign” by the grand old party and insisted that Shah has been cleared of all charges by the court.

“Astonishing that Congress President chooses to name BJP President Amit Shah and says he is a murder accused. He has been cleared by a Court. This is a fake and false motivated campaign by someone who is out on bail on criminal conspiracy of fraud in National Herald case,” Sitharaman said while addressing a press conference.
