Economic Class 12 Re Exam

Mumbai: Adding another problem to the CBSE Class 12 students from the Science stream who have opted for Economics as one of the papers, its re-exam on April 25, 2018 will clash with Andhra Pradesh EAMCET and Kerala Engineering Entrance Examination.

Education Secretary Anil Swarup on Friday announced that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will re-conduct the Class 12 Economics paper on April 25, 2018. The decision to re-conduct Class XII Economics paper has been taken after reports of paper leak.

However, according to the schedule released by Andhra Pradesh Education Department, the Andhra Pradesh EAMCET exam 2018 for engineering will be conducted from April 22 to April 25, 2018. Likewise, the Kerala Engineering Entrance Examination will be conducted on April 23 and April 24.

Many students in Science stream, from the Mathematics group and Biology group as well, opt for Economics as one of their subject of study in Plus Two. Besides Andhra Pradesh and Kerala, students from other states too are likely to suffer as JEE Main online exam is slated to be held on April 15 and 16, 2018. Hence Class 12 Economics re-test will leave such students with hardly any time for study.

The CBSE had on Wednesday announced that it has taken cognizance of paper leaks of certain exams and hence has decided to re-conduct the Class 12 Economics (Code 030) and Class 10 Mathematics (Code 041).

“The Board has taken cognizance of certain happenings in the conduct of certain examinations as are being reported. With the view to upholding the sanctity of the Board examinations and in the interest of the fairness to the students, the Board has decided to re-conduct the examinations of Class 12 Economics and Class 10 Mathematics,” a CBSE statement said.

While announcing the re-exams, the CBSE had also said that it will declare the dates of the re-exams within a week. It was hence expected that the re-exam dates will be made public on Monday or Tuesday. The re-exam dates were however announced not only earlier than expected but also by the Education Secretary, and not the CBSE. The CBSE normally makes such announcement through notification published on its website. The CBSE website however does not have any notification regarding the re-exam date so far.

The 2018 Class 12 and Class 10 board exams started on March 05. The CBSE Class XII exam is still underway and will end on April 12, 2018 with HOME SCIENCE as the last paper. The CBSE Class 10 Mathematics paper was held on Wednesday whereas the Class 12 Economics paper was held on March 26.

The CBSE 2018 Class 10 and Class 12 exams have been marred by reports of paper leaks. Earlier, there were also reports that CBSE Class 12 Accountancy paper was leaked and circulated on social media. The leak was confirmed by Manish Sisodia, Delhi Deputy CM and Education Minister. The CBSE however rejected all reports claiming the leak.

The CBSE decision had prompted protest from students and parents. The matter also took political turn with Congress, CPI (M) and other parties while slamming the Modi government termed the incident of paper leaks gross failure of the government.
