Aligarh: A number of Hindu students of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) on Thursday appeared on Television and condemned, debunked and termed totally false a report that they were molested, beaten and discriminated.

“They are in the habit of maligning and defaming the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). Even after a lot of noise when they did not find anything came a statement that Hindu students are molested and beaten. I am here in the university since last four years and have never faced what is being claimed by a section in the media”, Vishvati Singh, a student of Fine Art, said while talking to News Mx.

Singh was referring a report by a Hindi newspaper which claimed that Hindu students are beaten and girl students are being molested in the AMU campus. The report was published amidst the protest by the AMU students underway since May 02.

Ajay Singh, another student, while denouncing the report, said it was totally baseless to claim that the Hindu students are being targeted in the university. “We the Hindu students are actually among those leading the students’ protest”, Ajay Singh said.

He said that the baseless allegations against the Aligarh Muslim University and its students are part of the plan by the ruling party who won the elections in the name of emotional issues and tall promises but have failed to deliver.

“It is the same old distraction tactics by these people. They are targeting the AMU and Muslims to polarize the society and win the elections. We will expose their evil game and will never allow them to succeed”, he added.

AMU erupted in protest on May 02 after armed Hindutva extremists barged in the university and tried to disrupt a program organized to honor Former President of India Hamid Ansari. The AMU students objected to the armed extremists reportedly associated with Hindu Yuva Vahini – an outfit floated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath. When the protesting students approached police demanding action against the armed goons, they were mercilessly beaten by the police.

Manish Kumar and Eva Varshney also spoke in front of the camera and denounced the media report. “I condemn these reports because they are absolutely false”, Eva said.

Nishant Bhardwaj, a student of Political Science, while stating that such rumors and fabricated reports are being planted to divide and sabotage the AMU students’ protests, said, “This is the fight between two different ideologies. By fabricating lies and spreading rumors, they are trying to give it a communal color so as to divide us and dynamite our agitation”, he said.

Meanwhile, Prof Rattan Lal Hangloo, VC Allahabad University, who is in the United States, extended his support to the AMU students and also condemned the police attack on them.

“Kindly inform to all AMU students and teachers that I condemn the police attack on them. AMU and Sir Syed Ahmed Khan are close to my heart. I uphold the dignity of AMU and my fellow colleagues”, he wrote in a message issued from America.

“Jinnah is part of our great country’s history. Those who want to deface the history only want to prove that they have loyalty to prejudice and that does not serve our civilization nation”, he added.

“Our strength is our plurality of culture. Muslims are integral part of that great culture which they have nursed and grown with their valuable sacrifices”, he said.
