Doordarshan cameraman, two cops killed in Chhattisgarh Maoist attack

Raipur: Doordarshan news cameraman and two policemen were killed Tuesday in a Maoist attack in Dantewada area of poll-bound Chhattisgarh, police said.

Talking to DD News, ASP (Naxal operations) G N Baghel confirmed that cameraman Achyuta Nanda Sahu was killed in the ambush. The policemen killed in the terror attack are Sub Inspector Rudra Pratap and Assistant Constable Mangalu.

Two other security officers were also injured in the attack that took place in Dantewada district’s Aranpur village. The police were patrolling in the area when the attack took place.

Sahoo is survived by wife and one daughter. DD News had deployed a camera team for election coverage in Chhattisgarh. The team included cameraman Achyutananda Sahu, reporter Dhiraj Kumar and light assistant Mormukt Sharma.

Addressing a press conference, the officer said security forces are keeping a close watch in the neighbouring areas after the Dantewada attack. He said extra forces will be deployed in Dantewada and Bijapur.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh condemned the attack on police forces and DD cameraperson, calling it an “attack on democracy.”

“The society should strongly condemn the acts of violence and should come together in such times.”

State Minister, Rajyavardhan Rathore also condemned the attack. “These insurgents will not weaken our resolve. We will prevail,” he wrote on Twitter.
