New Delhi: A number of prominent Muslim organisations Wednesday raised questions over the manner in which the special status of Jammu and Kashmir was abrogated, saying Article 370 was incorporated in the Constitution through due process of the law and it can only be revoked by the due Constitutional procedure.
"Neither peace can be established nor loyalty can be bought by "disregarding basic principles of the Constitution", theyr said.
"The manner in which Article 370 was revoked attracted some constitutional objections and propriety. As of now, the matter is in the Supreme Court and we should put faith in the apex court and wait for its decision before taking any action", Indian Muslim leaders said in a statement released after their meeting held at Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind headquarters in New Delhi.
"Until it is proved that the removal of Article 370 (the special status) is not in accordance with the Constitutional provisions, we should focus on protecting the basic human rights of the people of Kashmir, establishing peace, and restoring the normalcy in the state", they said.
"Lifting of curfew, communication lockdown, access to emergency services including healthcare, and opening of the educational institutions must be done immediately. For this, the government must act immediately", they added.
The meeting was attended by Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind President Qari Mohammad Usman Mansoorpuri, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Chief Syed Sadatullah Husaini, President Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hdeeth Hind Asghar Ali Imam Mehadi Salafi, General Secretary Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind Mahmood Madani, Member All India Muslim personal Law Board Kamal Faruqi, Secretary General All India Muslim Majlise Mushawarat Mujtaba Farooqu, President Jamaate Ahle Sunnat Karnataka Tanveer Hashmi, President India Council of Food and Agriculture M J Khan, Shabbir Ahmad Nadavi Bangalore, Chairman Zakat Foundation of India Dr Syed Zafar Mahmood, Niyaz Ahmad Faooqi, Advocate Shakil Ahmad Syed, Abdul Hameed Nomani, Hakeemuddin Qasmi, and Moizuddin Ahmad.
Delhi Minority Commission Chairman Zafar-ul-Islma Khan also participated in the meeting.
The Muslim leaders also said that it is the prime duty of every citizen to maintain unity and integrity of the country and there cannot be any compromise with it.
"Equality, justice to all and human rights enshrined in the Constitution also meant to preserve the integrity and stability of the country. We cannot establish peace and tranquility by not following the Constitution and also cannot buy the loyalty of people by using force", the said.
