Malegaon: Upset by the denial of a land for Qabristan, MLA of Malegaon, Asif Shaikh, on Thursday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his government's permission for a buried in Saudi Arabia.
"Life for Muslims in the country is becoming miserable with every passing day. There are people who want us to neither live peacefully nor die gracefully", Asif Shaikh wrote in the letter addressed to PM Modi and handed to Malegaon Municipal Commissioner.
"It is hence I am seeking permission from the government of India to allow me a burial in Saudi Arabia", he wrote.
Asif Shaikh wrote to PM Modi after he failed to get a land for cemetery in the Maldhe area of Malegaon despite completing all necessary formalities, and approval by the MMC General Body and sanction from the District Collector.
Naming officers of various civic departments, Asif Shaikh said, "It appears that these officers are working under pressure and don't want us to live and get buried here in the country", he wrote.
"It is hence I am requesting you to permit me to get buried in Saudi Arabia", he reiterated.
"I will wait for a reply till August 14. Failing to get a reply or allotment of the Qabristan land till then, I will protest at Malegaon Municipal Corporation (MMC) on August 15", Asif Shaikh, who was accompanied by the people of Malde, said without disclosing the nature of his protest.
The government of India has built over 11000 flats in Malde area of Malegaon under Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme (IHSDP). About 7000 people have recently been shifted to the area. But they are facing dificulties becuase of absence of schools, hospitals, places of worship and burial ground.
"While shifting the people to the new area, Malegaon Municipal Corporation (MMC) had promised them to provide all necessary facilities. But, now the officers incharge of the concerned departments are, deliberatelly and seemingly under pressure, denying these facilities to the people of area", Asif Shaikh said.
