Naveed Mirza Injured in dog attack

Malegaon: A faculty member of Mansoora engineering college Friday got badly injured in an attempt to save himself from stray dogs who jumped on him while he was aboard his motorcycle.

Naveed Akhtar Mirza, a faculty member of the Civil Engineering Department of MMANTC Mansoora Enginnering College in Malegaon, was on his way to the college Friday morning after dropping his children to their school. Stray dogs - about half a dozen, jumped upon him as he crossed the Ambedkar Statue but he escaped unhurt.

However, he encountered another group of stray dogs near the end of the Ambedkar Bridge. He could not save himself this time.

"As soon as I reached the end of the Ambedkar Bridge near Sangmeshwar, I saw a group of stray dogs chasing another dog. Suddenly, they jumped on me. Somehow, I saved myself from them but lost the control of my motorcycle", he told ummid.com.

"I fell on the ground and sustained injuries on my face, shoulder and wrist", he said.

Some passerby reached to him for help and with first aid. They later called the Municipal Commissioner on mobile phone and shared with him through video call the entire incident.

"At first, the commissioner was not picking up the phone. He finally replied the call after several attempts, but far from taking any responsibility, he simply refused to listen", Naved Mirza said.

"Take him to the hospital. Why you are calling me", he said.

"More than the injuries, it was the attitude of the civic body chief that hurt me the most", Naveed said.

ummid.com tried to contact the Malegaon Municipal Corporation chief. He however was not available for a response.

Not the first incident

This is not the first or a rare dog attack in the city. In fact, stray dogs have been routinely making life tough for the local residents, especially the children going to schools early in the morning. Recently, a small child was almost mauled to death by stray dogs in Islamabad area of the city.

"We are contineously making appeals to the civic body officers to clean the city streets of stray dogs. But, citing one reason or the other, they are not paying any heed to out request", a local resident said.

"Are these officials waiting for someone mauled to death in dog attack? Will they come in action only then?" he asked.
