Gandhinagar: Textile Hub, Ahmedabad is under complete lockdown since Thursday mid-night following the surge in Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) cases in the city.
Over 300 new corona cases hae been added daily for the last eight days in Gujarat, with Ahmedabad contributing over 75 per cent of these cases.
Till date, Gujarat has reported a total of 396 Coronavirus deaths. Of them, 298 deaths are from Ahmedabad alone.
Amid the mounting cases, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Wednesday took several decisions with an effort to contain the coronavirus spread, including ordering that no shops, other than those selling milk and medicines, will remain open in the city over the next one week, news agency PTI reported. The AMC also took steps to set up 1,000 more beds for coronavirus patients across nineprivate hospitals,and create 500-bed capacity COVID care centres in private hotels in each ward of the city to accommodate the rising number of patients.
In an effort to improve recovery rate and bring down fatalities among coronavirus patients in Ahmedabad, the Gujarat government has roped in a team of specialists, including experts in the field of critical care, Principal Secretary (Health) Ravi said.
Gujarat has reported a total of 6,625 Corona positive cases till Wednesday evening.
Till date, 1,500 patients have been discharged in the state.
Of the total 6,625 corona cases in Gujarat, Ahmedabad leads with 4,735, followed by Surat 772, Vadodara 421, Gandhinagar 83, Bhavnagar 82, Anand 76, Banaskantha 64, Rajkot 62, Panchmahals 51, Botad 48, Mahisagar and Mahesana 42 each, Bharuch 27, Patan 24 and Aravalli 22.
Other districts and cities affected by Covid-19 are Kheda 17, Dahod 15, Chotta Udepur 14, Narmada 12, Sabarkantha 10, Navsari 8, Kutch 7, Valsad 6, Jamnagar 5, Porbandar, Gir-Somnath and Devbhumi Dwarka 3 each, Junagadh, Tapi and Dang 2 each, and Morbi and Surendranagar one each, according to IANS.
