New Delhi: There will be no exams for the university students studying in the first and second years across India, Ministry of Human Resources Development announced Wednesday.
"Exams will be held only for final year students. First and Second year students will be promoted based on their internal assessment and previous exam score", HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said.
Nishank made the announcement during a Live Webinar while interacting with the heads of more than 45,000 higher education institutes.
The universities will declare the results of the 1st and 2nd year students on the basis of their previous exams and the internal assessment of this year. The University will consider the average of 50% marks of their previous exams in addition to 50% marks in the internal assessment of this semester.
"Exams for final year students will take place. If the condition does not improve by July then the new dates will be released soon", the minister said.
All university exams in India scheduled in Apri-May 2020 and later were suspended and postponed because of the Coronavirus lockdown clamped on March 24.
Universities across Maharashtra had earlier decided to promote 1st and 2nd year students, and conduct exams only for final year students.
The decision had prompted final year students to demand cancellation of their exams. Stating that preparing for the exams under Corona scare is difficult, a number of online petitions were started where final year students too demanded from the Maharashtra government to cancel the their exams and waive of students with submissions.
