Hyderabad:
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K.Rosaiah yesterday said that the state
government had launched several welfare schemes for the minority christians for their betterment in the state.
Addressing a gathering in connection
with Christmas celebrations organised by the 31st United Christmas
Celebrations Committee-2009 here on Friday, he said the government was
providing financial assistances for the construction of churches in
rural areas in the state.
The government was also providing
financial assistances for organising mass marriages for the
Christians and also for the pilgrims who desire to go to Jerusalem
on par with the Haj pilgrims.
He said the government had established
the Christian Finance Development Corporation last year to take up
the developmental activities for the Christians in the state.
The State government had also passed a
resolution in the state Assembly in August 2009 to treat the Dalit
Christians on par with the Scheduled Castes to provide assistances
and sent it to the Union Government for consideration.
Extending his greetings on the
occasion of Christmas, he said Christmas was symbol of peace, love
and brotherhood. He lauded the services of Christian missionaries in
the field of health and education.
He said the Missionary convents were
the best in the country in as they serve the people with commitment.
Rev. Marampudi Joji Archbishop of Hyderabad Diocese urged the Chief
Minister to provide financial assistance to construct the churches in
rural areas and also providing burial grounds.
He said the educational institutions
which were running by the churches in the state were facing heavy
financial problems as the government stopped giving financial aids
to these institutions.
Andhra Pradesh State Transport
commissioner and Chairman of the United Christmas celebrations
committee J.Raymond Peter said the celebrations committee was
organising the programme for the last 31 years in the Greater
Hyderabad.
