Los Angeles:
Michael Jackson's Public Memorial would finally been taking place
today at the Staples Center in
Los Angeles.
The life and
music of the self-proclaimed "king of pop," who died of sudden
cardiac arrest last Thursday, will be celebrated on Tuesday at the
Staples Center, a basketball arena in downtown Los Angeles, informed
the family sources.
Jackson's
public memorial is scheduled for today at Staples Centre after the
plan to hold a grand public viewing at the pop star's fantasy-themed
Neverland was cancelled.
More than half
a million fans from around the world applied for 17,500 free tickets
to Michael Jackson's public memorial service, organizers said on
Friday. The venue has a capacity of 20,000 people.
The security
has been beefed up around Staples Center for today's Public Memorial
and Officials are warning fans to stay away from the star's memorial
service as they can face a hard response from police if found
without a ticket.
Fans who try
to enter the venue without a ticket will be dealt with strictly,
police said on Monday.
"Anybody who
does not hold proper credentials, tickets to get in to the event,
will not be allowed inside the security zone. So for those who are
thinking about coming out and maybe getting a shot to get in, that
won't happen", Jim McDonell, Los Angeles Police Department Assistant
chief has been quoted as saying.
"You will be
standing in the hot sun on a city street with a lot of other people
and you probably will not even be within eyeshot of the Staples,"
he added.
The security
officers are also urging mourners to stay home and watch the event
on television as there will be no screens erected outside the venue
as was announced earlier. They even plan to cordon off the arena to
make sure no one gets anywhere near the building without the
requisite authorisation.
Meanwhile it
is also reported that the pop star would be buried in a solid
bronze, gold-plated coffin worth $25,0000 and without brain as the
brain was taken out to conduct neuropathology tests to seek clues to
his sudden collapse and demise.
The casket, called a Promethean, will feature a blue velvet interior
and a hand-polished, mirror finish. It
is the same type of coffin which soul singer James Brown was buried
in.
Jackson saw the casket first hand when he paid tribute to the singer
as he lay in state in New York City’s Apollo Theatre.
