New Delhi, June 28: Chief Minister Mayawati on Saturday held a
meeting with top BSP functionaries and asked them to launch a
nationwide campaign to make people aware about the conspiracy
allegedly hatched by the Opposition parties to stop her from
becoming the Prime Minister. A booklet on how her rivals conspired
to thwart her prime ministerial ambitions was also reportedly
circulated at the meeting.
Later, party functionaries heading BSP's state units met Mayawati
separately and were briefed on how to expand the party base in their
states. Party insiders said the chief minister wanted her workers to
participate in demonstrations and rallies to expose the Opposition
parties who had allegedly joined hands to stop the BSP from
capturing power at the Centre. "The party now prefers to follow
political radicalism, instead of social radicalism. That's why
Mayawati asked us to organise public meetings, cadre camps, seminars
and rallies to expose such forces that damage the party's 'sarvjan'
formula," a source in the BSP said.
According to sources, Mayawati has asked Suresh Mane, who is
in-charge of the BSP in southern states, to oversee party affairs in
Maharashtra too. "Mane is a good organiser. She needs his services
in Maharashtra in view of the forthcoming Assembly elections there,"
a party insider said.
Mayawati also reviewed her party's current status in Haryana, where
the BSP has entered into an alliance with the Haryana Janhit
Congress Party of former CM Bhajan Lal.
Sources said the CM also distributed a booklet titled "Dalit Kee
Beti Pradhan Mantri Kyon Nahin Ban Saki" among her party
functionaries at the meeting.
The functionaries from different states submitted a progress report
about the party's performance in their respective areas. "She has
already given instructions to constitute new committees in all the
states. She collected information about the steps we have taken
after the Lok Sabha results," a source said.
Mayawati has reportedly asked her party leaders to continue with
BSP's policy of "Sarvjan Hitay, Sarvjan Sukhay".
Sources said she has directed the BSP state unit chiefs to empower
the district units to constitute "Bhaichara Committees" on the lines
of UP unit. "She also made queries about the progress made in this
regard," said a leader who attended the meeting.
