Bhopal: Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Mukul Wasnik has lavished praise on Madhya Pradesh officials for effective implementation of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

After studying a presentation, the minister came to the conclusion that Madhya Pradesh has left other states much behind in speedy investigation and justice to the affected persons.

He also observed that crimes against these sections have come down constantly in the state. What is remarkable is the novel experiment of involving voluntary organisations in this process.

Union Minister Wasnik has asked for detailed information about these facts for two purposes. These sets of information will be uploaded on the website of the Union Ministry and NGO project will be studied at the Centre after which decks will be cleared for its implementation in other states as well.

He suggested that more meetings of district level committees should be held. He also expressed satisfaction over the development works being undertaken in the sensitive areas where atrocities against these sections are reported. He assured that ways will be found out to extend financial assistance in this connection to the state even though there is no budgetary provision for this at the Centre.

Wasnik said that the Union government is bent upon abolition of practice of carrying night soil on head. He also praised Madhya Pradesh for efforts being made in this connection.

At the review meeting, Madhya Pradesh Minister of State Harishankar Khatik pointed out that Centre should extend financial help for state's police housing scheme. He also called for increase in compensation amount to the affected persons.
