Malegaon:
Noted educationist and lone Congress Member of Parliament from
Bihar, Maulana Asrarul Haque Qasmi has been selected for this
year's Sir Syed Award, AFMI announced today.
Maulana Asrarul Haque Qasmi has been
selected for the award for his contributions to the education of
Indian Muslims.
Sir Syed Award is conferred on the
distinguished Indian Muslims, who contribute for the empowerment
of the community, by Michigan based American Federation of Muslims
of Indian Origin (AFMI) every year.
The award will be given to the
Maulana during the two-day AFMI International Convention, which
would be held on December 25 & 26 in Ahmedabad.
The convention will be inaugurated
by the Governor of Gujarat, Dr. Kamla Benival. Union Minister of
law and Justice Veerappa Moily will deliver the key note address
at the event.
Justice Dr Rajinder Sachar, Dr.
Juzer Bandukwala, Prof. V. Tripathy ((IIT) and of Sadbhav
Mission-Delhi), Dr. Zafar Mehmood (Zakat Foundation), Aslam Fakih
(educationist), Mrs. Ruchira Ghosh (British Council), A. Kareem
Gheewala (Indian Muslim Association, UK), and a host of other
educationists, social activists, & community leaders will address
the gathering.
The convention will also honour Muslim toppers of X and XII board exams from each state. AFMI had
earlier released
the list of 15 students to be honoured during the convention.
