              Aligarh:
The Aligarh Muslim University move to establish a state-of-art AMU
Centre at Malappuram has received a big push. The Kerala
government has acquired a total of 392 acres of land for setting
up the AMU Centre and decided to organize the official land
transfer ceremony. The Government of Kerala will be handing over
218 acres of land at a function to be held at Thiruvananthapuram
              on December 28, 2010.

The Kerala government has already transferred 122 acres of land to
AMU in a public function in March 2010 thus making the Malappuram
              campus a sprawling 340 acres.

The Chief Minister of Kerala V. S. Achutanand will be present at
the land transfer ceremony and the leader of opposition in Kerala
Assembly, Omen Chandi, the Minister of Higher Education, M. A.
Baby, Revenue Minister Rajan, Finance Minister Thomas and other
prominent dignitaries will attend the land hand-over function. AMU
Vice Chancellor Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis, along with Registrar Prof.
              V. K. Abdul Jaleel and a team of University officials will be
present when the land transfer document will be handed over to the
              University.

Driven by the dynamic drive of Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis, the AMU
Malappuram Centre project is considered as a vital segment of the
dream project to increase equitable access to quality education
and capacity building in youths, particularly of minorities and
marginalized social segments. The project aims at minority
education, women’s education, technical education, vocational
education, medical, nursing, management, law etc. ingraining in
its all entirety the dimension of world-class standard equipped
with advanced digital and green field technology.

A major priority of the project is to set in motion the national
development goals of the Government of India through the inclusive
growth by reducing educational deficit. The partnership with the
state government and the overwhelming support the AMU is receiving
from the Government of Kerala. The State government has provided
free land. It is creating all facilities and building, supplying
infrastructure and has provided temporary accommodation to make
              the Centre functional.

The University appointed consultant EdCIL has already submitted a
Detailed Project Report and in about eight years’ period the
Centre will become fully functional with 11285 students and an
annual recurring expenditure of Rs. 10585 Lakhs.
