Love Jihad, baseless allegation to defame the community: Muslim leaders

'Hindu-Muslim marriages under probe' - The report has no basis, says the Minister

Bangalore: The Karnataka High Court today granted six weeks time to the State Police to file its final report on the ''love jihad'' which came to light with the case of a Hindu girl's marriage to a Muslim recently.

A Division Bench comprising Justice K Sreedhara Rao and Justice Ravi B Mallimath granted six weeks time to the special cell, headed by DIG Central Investigation Department (CID) Malini Krishnamurthy, constituted to probe the ''love jihad'' and submit its report as per State Government's request.

The Bench also took note of the Kerala High Court judgement of December nine, 2009 on the issue which was placed on record. The judgement observed there were indications of ''forceful'' religious conversions under the guise of ''love'' in the State (Kerala) and suggested the government consider enacting a law to prohibit such ''deceptive acts.''

On November 13, when the case came up for hearing, the Karnataka Police, in their interim report submitted to the court, said there seemed to be ''no prima facie evidence of love jihad in the case of Siljaraj of Chamarajnagar District marrying Asgar of Kannur District and she has married Asgar out of her own volition.''
