Hubli: Karnataka Minister for Rural Development Jagadish Shettar today said former President A P J Abdul Kalam will be invited to inaugurate the golden jubilee function of the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) to be held here on September 18 and 19.

Talking to newsmen here, Mr Shettar who is also Dharwad district incharge Minister said Union Health Minister Gulam Nabi Azad and Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa will also participate in the function.

He said a special grant of Rs 10 crore has been sanctioned for developing cancer treatment section in the KIMS hospital.

There is a proposal before the government to establish a super specialty treatment complex in KIMS campus.

The government has already sanctioned Rs 42 crore to the institute for various development projects, he added.
