New Delhi: Union Law Minister M. Veerappa Moily today blamed the judiciary to be very slow and alleged that it had reduced the Bhopal disaster into a truck accident.
"Government did its duty. It was the judiciary that was slow", Moily has been quoted as saying by the electronic media.
The minister blamed the judiciary directly for the Bhopal mess-up, saying it is the judiciary and not the executive that is to blame though he did not name Justice Ahmadi.
"It is the judiciary and not the executive that is to blame for the Bhopal mess," Moily said, adding "The judiciary was slow and treated the tragedy like a truck accident."
He also brushed aside the notion that the Bhopal tragedy was an accident.
"Man-Made disasters like Bhopal cannot be treated as an accident", he said.
Meanwhile, Former CJI Justice Ahmadi commenting on Union Law Minister Moily's charges says, he does not want to involve into blame game.
""I don't want to get drawn into blame game", he said.
Justice Ahmadi has also offered to quit as the Bhopal Memorial Hospital trust chairman. He said he would send his resignation to the CJI after allegations of conflict of interest.
Justice Ahmedi was sharply criticised for his controversial judgment which diluted the charges against the accused. Critics were citing conflict of interest in Ahmadi heading the Bhopal Memorial Hospital Trust, set up by the Supreme Court with money given by the Union Carbide, after his retirement.
