Smoking in Pune University? ready to pay fine

Pune: The University of Pune has ordered a fine of Rs 200 if the institution's teaching and non-teaching staff and students are found using tobacco on campus.

The UoP has taken the step after receiving directives from union health and family welfare ministry.

The UoP has issued an order in this regard which bans smoking or chewing of tobacco in the buidlings or open spaces on varsity campus.

The security guards have been asked to take action if they find someone breaking the norm. The order also bans sale of tobacco and cigarettes.

Students and teaching faculty have welcomed the decision saying the order is an effort to bring more conducive environment for academics.
