New Delhi: Art is much
more than just colour and compositions. Words And Lines, a 24-hour
online auction by Saffronart that opens Wednesday, will auction 90
scrapbooks, journals and informal drawings by 26 modern Indian
masters like Ram Kumar, F.N. Souza, S.H. Raza, Nasreen Mohamedi,
K.K. Hebbar and Jahangir Sabavala.
The lots on sale will also include drawings and publications from
the collection of Rudy von Leyden and patron Julian Hartnoll, a
statement issued by Saffronart said.
This sale will offer collectors access to a wide range of modern
drawings dating from as early as the 1940s and a selection of
significant art books by Edwin Mullins, Richard Bartholomew and Shiv
S. Kapur, Jacques Lassaigne and Geeta Kapur.
The highlight of the auction is a rare set of pages from F.N.
Souza's personal scrapbook from the 1960s, offering an intimate
glimpse into his personal life at a very important juncture in his
career. The auction will also bring under the hammer the first set
of monographs published by Indian artists in India and abroad.
The total lower and higher estimates for the Words and Lines 24-hour
auction are Rs.97.3 lakh ($224,000) and Rs.1.3 crore ($300,000).
The auction will be open to mobile phone and iphone bids.
