Panaji:
Congress leaders always cry foul over Narendra Modi, but the
Gujarat chief minister has found high praise from a senior party
official in Goa -- that too on Facebook.
State Congress general secretary Vishnu Wagh's comments praising
the controversial Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief minister has
triggered chatter on the social networking site.
Wagh, an award winning writer, dramatist and poet has not only
called Modi a "good CM" in his post dated April 23, but also
expressed his regard for other senior BJP leaders like L.K. Advani,
Arun Jaitley and party president Nitin Gadkari.
"Why shd Modi need an American Certificate? America is a rogue
country. No doubt, Modi is a gd CM. very enterprising, bt 2 cal
him one man army means belittiling (belittling) senior leaders lk
Advani, Jetly, and Gadkari," Wagh commented.
His comment was on the page, "I condemn the behaviour of Congress
party for staging a Conspiracy against Modiji", created by BJP
sympathizer Durgadas Kamat.
Wagh's reference to the "American certificate" refers to the
Wikileaks revelation which quoted a 2006 diplomatic cable by
Consul General in Mumbai Michael S. Owen as saying that "Modi has
successfully branded himself as a non-corrupt, effective
administrator, as a facilitator of business in a state with a deep
commercial culture, and as a no-nonsense, law-and-order politician
who looks after the interests of the Hindu majority".
Wagh in another post related to his pro-Modi comment has
reiterated: "I am firm about whatever I have said."
Goa Congress president Subhash Shirodkar was unavailable for
comment on Wagh's remarks.
Wagh is, incidentally, media advisor to the information minister
and Chief Minister Digambar Kamat who also has in the past
triggered controversy by telling the media in April last year that
"Modi is my good friend".
