New Delhi: A Delhi High Court bench Wednesday recused itself from hearing a petition of a former Jamia Millia Islamia student for quashing a 2006 decision of the university to ban elections to the student union.

The petition, filed by Ikrar Khan, says the decision to ban the students' union elections of the university from March 2006 was unreasonable.

Khan has alleged that the authorities had continued to collect a fee of Rs.50 per student without any union elections being held in the last few years.

The petition says that Jamia authorities in 2006 dissolved the elected student union without giving any reason.

A bench of acting Chief Justice A.K. Sikri and Justice Rajiv Shah Endlaw recused itself from hearing the plea. The matter will come up for hearing before another bench Jan 9, 2012.
