Ahmedabad: A new
surgery procedure called Minimum Invasive Cardiac Surgery (MICS)
that reduces the incision size by more than half will be showcased
at the three-day international conference on cardiology beginning
here Friday.
The conference, 'CIMS-3C-CON 2011', is being organized in
collaboration with the 4th World Congress International Academy of
Cardiovascular Sciences. It is being held at the Care Institute of
Medical Sciences (CIMS) here.
The CIMS-3C-CON will bring to Ahmedabad the largest ever
international faculty in the history of Indian cardiac
conferences, Milan Chag, managing director, CIMS & Chair,
Scientific Committee told mediapersons here Thursday.
He said the aim of the conference, being attended by experts from
more than a 100 nationally and internationally acclaimed faculties
and over 1,600 delegates, is to bridge the gap between basic
sciences and clinical practice.
"Also, this year we align with the International Academy of
Cardiovascular Sciences and enlarge our canvass of curriculum to
include basic research sciences," he added.
Chag said that at the conference, Dr Dhiren Shah will showcase
Minimum Invasive Cardiac Surgery (MICS), which medical science hs
described as the precursor of the future Robotic Surgery.
"This novel surgery procedure called Minimum Invasive Cardiac
Surgery (MICS) is an answer to all the problems related to big
incisions (cuts) on body like wound infection, keloid scars, pain,
delayed recovery and cosmetic problem in young patients.
"This surgery reduces the incision size to 3 to 4 inches instead
of 8 to 12 inches in traditional surgery. Also the recovery time
is reduced from three months to just one month."
