India terms OIC's Kashmir description 'most regrettable'

New Delhi: India has termed as "most regrettable" the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) describing Jammu and Kashmir as "occupied territory".

"We have seen reports that the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) has again chosen to refer to Jammu and Kashmir incorrectly, in an invitation to an Indian invitee to an OIC meeting. This is most regrettable," external affairs ministry spokesperson Vishnu Prakash said.

He was reacting to a private television channel carrying a report of an invitation from OIC secretary general Ekmeleddin Thsanoglu to the chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.

In the letter's address, Jammu and Kashmir was referred to as "Indian occupied territory".

Asserting that Jammu and Kashmir is "an integral part of India", the spokesperson added: "We totally reject any reference or description to the contrary."

The 57-member OIC has traditionally taken an anti-India stance, issuing frequent resolutions on Kashmir that mirror Pakistan's position on the state.
