UN Chief to discuss Kashmir with India, Pakistan

Thursday June 23, 2011 03:11:48 PM, IANS

Islamabad: UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has said he will discuss Kashmir with Indian and Pakistani leaders to help resolve the dispute through dialogue, a media report said Thursday.

"I will have opportunities in the future, as in the past, (to) discuss the matter with leaders of both India and Pakistan how we can help or how this issue could be resolved peacefully through dialogue," the Associated Press of Pakistan quoted Ban as saying.

He said: "I am aware of the positions of both India and Pakistan leaders. They have been discussing this matter at foreign secretary level, and foreign ministerial level meetings have taken place.

"All these issues should be resolved peacefully through dialogue between the two governments," Ban added.

Ban took the oath of office Tuesday after his approval by the 192-member General Assembly for a second five-year term.
