Arrange full education for Chhattisgarh's tribal students: President

Saturday June 25, 2011 11:48:20 PM, IANS

Raipur: President Pratibha Patil Saturday called for arrangements to be made in Chhattisgarh for providing exclusive educational facilities for tribal students from the kindergarten (KG) level to post-graduate (PG) level.

"Why are tribal students neglected here, give the educational facilities to them from KG to PG-level," the president remarked while speaking at a function where she formally inaugurated a state-of-the-art building of the Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) in heart of the city.

The president's exhortation came in the presence of Chief Minister Raman Singh when her attention was drawn to the fact that not a single tribal student has been presently enrolled in Bilaspur-based Guru Ghasidas Central University in the state. She expressed surprise about the information passed on to her by Vice Chancellor Laxman Chaturvedi.

Patil concluded her two-day visit of Chhattisgarh Saturday. She had addressed a special meet of the state assembly Friday where she called upon Maoists to shun violence and enter into dialogue with the government to ensure development of tribal people.
