Mumbai:
Rajya Sabha Member and president of Jamiatul Ulema-e-Hind Maulana
Mehmood Madani in a meeting with Chief Minister Prithviraj Chuahan
in Mumbai May 03 alleged that the state is not sincere for the
welfare of the minorities and despite having a separate ministry
does not have any clear vision for the development of minorities.
"Although two ministers are assigned
the work to look after the minority welfare, unfortunately its
vision document for educational, social & economical upliftment of
minorities of Maharashtra is not yet prepared", Mehmood Madni said
to Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chuahan.
"The Wakf Board was established in
2002 as per Wakf Act 1996 but it still awaits the
nomination/selection of its members. Neither permanent CEO has
been appointed nor annual budget (at least Rs. 25 Crore which is
required to run its activities smoothly) has been given so far.
The staff pattern & regulations have also not been made so far.
The same is for State Minority Commission & State Haj Committee",
he added.
Alleging that huge property of wakf
has been encroached or illegally occupied by many individuals &
organizations but no action has been taken so far, he said, "It is
demanded that these encroached land must be recovered on the
same lines as that of Adivasi Land Act & the Revenue Department/
Zilla Parishad etc must be directed & held responsible/accountable
to protect the wakf property through out the state."
Demanding that a separate university
for Muslims should be established in Maharashtra, Mehmood Madni
said, "Minorities should be encouraged to establish educational,
professional, technical institutions by keeping a check on
unwanted bureaucratic hurdles. The urdu schools should be granted
the permission to start & the financial grant should be given to
all those working since last 4 years."
